Disc Golf Romania Makes Its PDGA Debut at Bulgarian Open 2024

Three Players, First-Time Experiences, and a Taste of What's to Come

It had to start somewhere. The Bulgarian Open 2024 marked a historic first for Disc Golf Romania — our players stepping onto a PDGA sanctioned course for the very first time, competing alongside experienced disc golfers from Bulgaria, Slovakia, Germany, and the United States. It was a baptism by fire, and we wouldn't have had it any other way.

The Results

The official results are in, courtesy of the Professional Disc Golf Association:

🎯 MA2 Alex Cioacă — 10th place, 8 PDGA points Phil Barnes — 11th place

🎯 MA3 Mihai Cojocaru — 4th place, 15 PDGA points

For three players at their very first PDGA tournament, these are results to be proud of. But more than the numbers, what this weekend gave our team was something far more valuable — a front row seat to what international disc golf looks and feels like. We saw the standard. We felt the competition. We came home knowing exactly what we need to do next.

As we said afterwards: we've seen how it's done. Next time, we'll be higher up the leaderboard. 💪

A Beautiful Course, A Generous Community

The tournament took place at Ezero Park in Burgas — a beautifully designed course within walking distance of the beach, in one of Bulgaria's most charming coastal cities. Disc Golf Bulgaria have built something truly special here, and their warmth and hospitality throughout the weekend made the experience unforgettable.

To our Bulgarian friends: thank you for welcoming us with open arms. The friendship between our two communities is one we intend to nurture for a long time to come, as we work together to grow disc golf across Eastern Europe alongside our neighbours. 🇷🇴🇧🇬

A special shoutout also goes to PDGA Europe and the Paul McBeth Foundation, whose crucial support made this tournament possible in the first place.

This was just the beginning. Watch this space. 🥏
