Hillside Transylvania is a permanent disc golf course located near Odorheiu Secuiesc, in Harghita County, Romania.

Set on the side of a hill above the city, the course offers one of the most scenic disc golf experiences in the country. The layout plays across several elevation levels, with open fairways, sloped landing zones, strategic patches of trees and bushes, and wide views over Odorheiu Secuiesc, the surrounding plateau, and the Transylvanian hills.

The course is not densely wooded, but it is far from simple. Elevation change is the main challenge: uphill throws, downhill drives, side slopes, wind exposure, and landing angles all matter. Hillside rewards players who can combine distance with control and make smart decisions about placement.

The setting gives the course a very distinctive feeling: open skies, rolling terrain, and the sense of throwing from the top of the world.

Hillside Transylvania is also an excellent destination course. Odorheiu Secuiesc is a charming town in Szeklerland, a historic multiethnic region of Romania known for its landscapes, local culture, traditional food, and nearby tourist attractions. Players visiting the course can combine disc golf with hiking, cycling, kayaking, rafting, thermal springs, mountain villages, medieval towns, and other Transylvanian travel experiences.

The course is suitable for experienced players looking for elevation and shot-shaping challenges, while also offering a memorable introduction to disc golf in one of Romania’s most beautiful regions.

HOW TO GET THERE

  1. 1

Fly into Târgu Mureș (TGM) for the closest hop — about 1h drive. Brașov (BRV) and Sibiu (SBZ) are both within ~2h. Cluj-Napoca (CLJ) and Bucharest (OTP) are larger international hubs but further out (3h30 and 5h30 respectively).

  2. 2

Pick up a rental car at any of these airports. Roads through the Carpathians are scenic — give yourself extra time in winter.

  3. 3

Or take the train to Odorheiu Secuiesc — connections from Brașov and Sighișoara, scenic but slower.

  4. 4

Coach buses also run daily into Odorhei from Cluj, Târgu Mureș and Brașov. Cheapest option.
